Figures of Salt Spring

Currently the Salt Spring
Dollars feature 8 historical figures of Salt Spring's past - five women
and three men.

The one dollar bill features Henry
Bullock, perhaps Salt Spring’s most recognized historical figure. Local
stories abound about this English gentleman and his effect on early Salt
Spring.

The two dollar bill features Matilda
Naukana Harris, a matriarch of the local Roland family and daughter of the
Hawaiian, William Naukana (who is believed to have been related to the
Hawaiian Royal family) and Tsaltonalt of the First Nations.

The five dollar bill portrays Sylvia
Stark, one of the first black settlers to arrive on Salt Spring in the
1860’s. Sylvia lived to be 105 and some of her descendents and relatives
also still live on the island.
The ten dollar bill
portrays Jane Mouat

The twenty dollar bill portrays John P. Booth
Future issues and denominations will
feature other Salt Spring Islanders from the past and present.
